Wonder of Love
H71xW53cm (larger piece) stoneware
After Magritte’s Song of Love, 1948. Frustrated desire is a common theme in his work but reversing the body parts of the mermaids allows full scope for intimacy, as the male’s upturned fin suggests. Reversing the traditional mermaid form makes these creatures of fantasy even more unreal but that’s love all over.
