Hippocamp (fountain)

H50xW79cm; Stoneware

Emerging in several cultures, the hippocampus was believed to be the adult-form of the sea-horse fish. Sea nymphs found it the best way to travel, although York’s Sea Horse Inn has a golden statue of a seahorse with paws, which suggests doggy paddling rather than sculling through the waves. Hippocamp, designed to sit on the rocks spouting water into a pond, swaps webbed feet for equine hooves.
